CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE
A right shithole, Malaga airport. Still it hasnât dented how good I feel. Itâs recharged my batteries this holiday and Iâll be the first to admit I needed it. At one time I had Thailand in mind but figured that would be more an adventure than a rest. Sarahâs out like a light next to me but Iâm going to have another half bottle of their white wine. Itâs on the firm and looking at what you pay for a scheduled flight youâre well entitled to as much value for money as you can handle. Letâs hope itâs done her a bit of good too. Iâve done my best, tried to keep her a bit straight and sheâs got a bit of a tan. Normally sheâs very pale Sarah is so we had to go a bit easy on the old sun but we got it about right because sheâs got a bit of colour without getting burnt. Yes, all in all itâs been well worth it. Iâve been able to think through a few things and thereâs a spring back in the step.
Course it took a lot of fixing, I couldnât just take off. Itâs a joke really, all the hassle youâve got to go through just for a holiday but thatâs reality, I had a lot on my plate. Curtis for one thing. Turned out he was due for a spot of leave too but I managed to fit him in before we both left. Funnily enough it was him, Graham, who suggested a walk in the park. Maybe he really does think Iâm taping him. Personally I think you can take paranoia too far. After sailing thereâs no better exercise than a walk in the sunshine he said. Bollox.
âLimbering up for your holiday Graham?â I said. âOff with the boat is it?â
Turned out that no, he wasnât. Just this once it was a villa in Spain. I said that was a coincidence which was a bit of a rick. For one thing itâs not his business and for another he didnât like the sound of it till he worked out he was a couple of hundred miles to the north. Personally speaking I think the Rubber Heels have got about as much bite as Mickey White has these days but in the death I prefer Graham careful, even when itâs treble careful. In fact itâs been one of the things going through my mind while Iâve been away.
Hereâs the stewardess, not exactly a stunner but efficient which is what you want when youâre a few thousand feet up in the air. Sheâs got my half bottle and a fresh glass. Itâs those little touches that count so I say thanks and yes, I will fly with her again. Doesnât cost you does it, raising a smile.
Yes, itâs strange what can set off things in your mind. I was having breakfast on the terrace one morning, you canât beat it can you, reading the old paper out in the sun with just your shorts on and a decent cup of coffee.
